How did I become a content designer?

I’m glad you asked!

I started my career in banking, collecting loans payments and interest. But I never loved it. One day, I wrote out a list of things I liked to do. Reading was at the top, followed closely by writing. So started my journey to figure out how to turn my love of words into a career.

I took some journalism classes after work, and fell in love with it right away: I learned how to ask the right questions and tell the right story. In the bank, I moved into a customer-facing role, monitoring social media, and got my first taste of user problems. I realised the time and energy to solve them could make or break a person’s day.

In the first months of COVID, I stumbled upon a job posting: Content Designer. What was that? I had no idea, but when I read the job description, my journalism lessons came together with my customer service background. What better way to solve user problems than to design experiences that prevent them in the first place? I got that job, and 4 years and 2 companies later, I’m proud that my love of words can make someone’s day just a little bit better.

Outside of design, I also volunteer at the Toronto International Film Festival, work as an elections official, and run social media for the CIBC Run for the Cure.

Who am I outside of work?

  • I hail from Toronto, Canada. 🇨🇦

  • I love all kinds of food — but the spicier, the better!

  • My friends like to say I have a good memory. I don’t know about that, but I do know my memory tends to store random bits and bobs of trivia.

  • I once beat 350 people to win a Rock-Paper-Scissors tournament. Don’t ask how, I don’t know either.

  • My ideal chill day involves sleeping in, binging a show or book, and ordering in. My ideal active day involves a long walk, while contemplating the universe or my existence.

  • I love volunteering — it’s a great way to get to know a city and meet like-minded people!
